Anna Marie Stringfellow

March 1, 1920, in Washington,DC, to Lucile and Charles D. Rue, both deceased. She was

married to Thornton Stringfellow who is also deceased. She is survived by two daughters,

Charlene and husband Robert Grogg of Massanutten, Virginia, and Patricia and husband

Mitchell Garbee of Lynchburg, Virginia. Also surviving are granddaughter Kelly Grogg

Hatfield and husband Eric of Los Angeles, California; and three grandsons, Matt Grogg

of Alexandria, Virginia; Greg Garbee of Charlottesville, Virginia; and Ben Garbee of

Charleston, South Carolina. She also has two great-grandchildren, Harper and Cole

Hatfield of Los Angeles.

Mrs. Stringfellow was a life-long resident of Culpeper, Virginia. She graduated from Culpeper County High School and Westhampton College of the University of Richmond. She taught the seventh grade in Culpeper, worked for American Airlines at National Airport

(now Reagan), and then ran her family's business, the Ward-Rue Lumber Company for

many years.

She had a number of firsts in her life. She was a charter member and first president of the

Culpeper Jayceettes. She was the first woman director of the Second National Bank and

served as councilwoman for the town of Culpeper. She was a charter member and

secretary of the first board of directors of the Country Club of Culpeper. She also won the

first women's golf tournament of the country club. In her later years she enjoyed playing

bridge at the country club. Another pleasure in her life was time spent at her Sandbridge

beach home.

Visitation will be held at Clore-English Funeral Home on Monday, December 8, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. until 10: 30 a.m. Her life will be celebrated at a funeral service at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Culpeper on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 11:00 o’clock. Interment will be private.
