

Anne Pierce McWhirt, 92, formerly of Amissville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2015 at Poet’s Walk of Spotsylvania. Anne was born in Rixeyville, Virginia on August 19, 1923. She was the daughter of Walter and Mary Pierce. She attended Mary Washington College and Strayer University.
Anne married Frank Pratt McWhirt in April 1943 in Palm Beach, Florida. During World War II, Anne worked in the federal government for the Petroleum Administration for War, and also for Selective Service. After the war she went to work for Arlington County Public Schools for 29 years as a school secretary and an administrative assistant to the principal.
She and Frank lived in Falls Church for 36 years before retiring to Amissville, Virginia. Anne loved the outdoors, and continued to spend time in her flower gardens until recent years. She and Frank had a successful Christmas tree farm for over 25 years.
Anne was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution for 64 years. She was a member of Amissville United Methodist Church and was active for many years on various boards and committees. She loved traveling with her family to Nags Head, North Carolina and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary McWhirt Murphy (Michael) and her son, Walter Pierce McWhirt (Pamela) of Spotsylvania. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Katelyn Elizabeth Murphy and Matthew Pierce McWhirt (Stephanie), and two great-grandchildren, Noah Walter McWhirt and Sarah Felicity McWhirt.
A time of visitation will be Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 2-4 pm at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, Virginia. A funeral service will be held at Amissville United Methodist Church Sunday, October 11, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Interment will be private.
