I worked with Carl for many years at the satellite operations control center (SOCC) in Suitland, Maryland. He will always be remembered for his professionalism, knowledge of satellite operations and good nature. He introduced me to the collecting of Wynn-Ross trucks, The love of his cat, and his eagerness to provide support and direction in the performance of my job. Carl will always be remembered as a good friend as we continued to exchange Christmas cards up till this past year. May he rest in peace and know that he will be missed by both family and friends. Carl and I worked together at NOAA and were car buddies. He was a good friend and always had a smile and laugh to share. We kept in touch after retirement and would kid each other about different cars. 
He will be missed. My prayers to the family.

Another email note I received from Carl (Butch):
     I became an officer (Lieutenant) in 1966 at the Nike Missile Site in Granite where I had worked since 1964.  We were sent to numerous army posts all over  the USA for training to keep up with changes in the system.  In 1968 I was sent to Fort Rucker in Alabama for training on CBR {Chemical/Biological/Radiological) equipped missiles.   There were about 20 guys in the class from Hawaii and I  became “chummy” with a few of them and one was a kernel.  When the class finished, I had finished first in the class and the military makes a big deal out of it.  The kernel told me if I would ever considered moving to Hawaii,  give him a call and he would get me transferred.    He called me a few times afterward to see if I was interested and I finally told him yes.  I transferred to Hawaii in 1969 and became the officer in charge of site of the radar units on Oahu.  I really liked Hawaii and in 1969 they were looking for a few helicopter pilot trainees  because they used choppers to fly to the various islands that had sites on them.  I didn’t expect to get chosen since I was a “new guy,” but I put my name in and a  couple weeks later my kernal friend called me and told me that I was one of guys selected.  I came back to Texas  and went through flight school which was 10 months of training.  Uncle Sam has really been kind to me and I really enjoyed flying the choppers.   CY


  Carl (Butch as we knew him)  was often a great help his friend and neighbor  Gilbert Deitz,  getting in hay bales or shocking the corn, etc.  They both just seemed to enjoy the gardening and farming interest in their blood.
  Butch had an amazing beautiful garden each year, and was always sharing his vegetables with friends, neighbors, and friends at work (especially his Early Pick tomatoes).  When his mother was living, they would enter his vegetables at the Maryland State Fair.
    In an email recently, Butch sent two songs he loved to listen to through out the year.  He said: “    I  always save a few songs that i carry over every year to keep on listening.  I only picked two so far this year.   The first was triggered by not getting to save soldiers in Vietnam. The other is because NO ONE can sing that song like this little gal can. In his honor, I am passing on the first one of these (above).  It is worth listening to by everyone.  They make me remember what I liked about knowing him.  He was a God loving, compassionate, admirable friend.  
…The other one he loved was Carrie Underwood’s version of “How Great Thou Art.”
He also sang in a church choir and sang and played a guitar with a trio in high school.

Worked with Carl “CY” at both Baltimore ATC Friendship International/BWI and NOAA /SOCC Suitland Maryland. He was an intense person with great humor. I tipped many a beer with Carl, water skied with him and so much more. I will miss him but never be without great memories .
