Claire St. Jacques, after a courageous battle with cancer, died at Culpeper Hospital on Friday, October 26, 2012. Claire is survived by her wonderful sister, Ann Engelstad of Silver Spring, Maryland and Stuart, Florida. She is also survived by her four nieces and one nephew, Mrs. Joanne Gerber and her husband, Joe, of Kensington, Maryland, Mrs. Kathy Wasowski and her husband, Stanley, of Atlanta, (Dunwoody) Georgia, Mrs. Maureen Allison and her husband, Basil, of Burtonsville, Maryland, Mrs. Marianne Chung and her husband, George, of Belmont, California; and her nephew, Mr. Joseph McDonald of Hubert, North Carolina. There are other great-nieces and great-nephews. Claire has been an extraordinary sister and aunt. She is also survived by her long-time special friends and roommates, Nancy Garrett and Ann Mattingly, both of Culpeper.
Not to be forgotten is her special "four-legged" friend, her cat, Muffin, who already walks around looking for her. Claire spent most of her recent years at the farm in Boston, Virginia. She loved it there and knew how to do almost everything-and she was good at what she did. Claire will be remembered for her dedicated and extraordinary service for over 25 years as Director of Wolf Trap. The amazing way in which Wolf Trap was rebuilt after fire burned it to the ground was due to Claire's personal knowledge and total commitment to making sure Wolf Trap was there for future enjoyment by thousands of our citizens. Prior to being asked to be the Director of Wolf Trap Claire was involved in the building of the Kennedy Center where she served as Production Manager for six years. What an amazing career Claire had in the arts!! In Culpeper, Claire served as a consultant to the State Theatre Foundation Board, as a volunteer at Culpeper Regional Hospital and for the Soap Box Derby. Claire will be missed by so many who counted on her for so much.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Precious Blood Catholic Church. A lunch will be provided afterwards at Peppers. Burial will be private.
Clore English Funeral Home is making the arrangements.
Donations in her memory can be made to the Culpeper Regional Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 592, Culpeper, Virginia 22701.
