Dan was born on 2/18/55 in Penn Yan, NY to parents Evelyn and Lloyd Emerson. After graduating from Penn Yan Academy in 1973, he worked as an Electrician for Carol and Keavney Electrical Company out of Gorham, NY. In 1994, he moved to Reva, VA and had several positions at Culpeper Regional Hospital, working there for 14 years. Later, he was employed by Fauquier County as a Senior Controls Technician until he passed.
Dan gave back to his communities. He was a former member of Penn Yan Area Volunteer Ambulance Corp, serving as Past President, Director and EMT. After moving to Virginia, he was a charter member of Reva Volunteer Fire & Rescue and served as Director and Firefighter.
He had a love of being outdoors, either on his mower cutting grass, his tractor pushing snow or just picking up sticks and playing with the dogs. He LOVED camping and shared this love with his wife, family and dogs. Dan was amazing in his workshop, making all sorts of things, including a crib for Mackenzie, a grandbaby bench for Nana, hope chests for the girls, LOVE book case, Christmas ornaments out of walnut tree branches and fish puzzles for the grandbabies. (Deb always had IDEAS) There wasn’t much Dan could not do or fix. He built two log houses in NY, remodeled a kitchen, built a deck, closed in a porch to make a sun room and even fixed a broken leg on a baby doll. He developed a love of college basketball and would spend the winters going to UVA Men’s Basketball games with Deb as their winter date nights.
A Memorial is scheduled for Dan on Monday, March 7, 2016, at 6:30 pm at Culpeper United Methodist Church with a reception to follow. Pastors Randy Orndorff and Norma Jean Fellows will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dan’s life. The family would like to thank all of his co-workers at Fauquier County for the very generous donations of time which covered him while he was out of work and battling the cancer and Hospice of the Piedmont for their care during the last couple of months. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be sent to Reva Volunteer Fire & Rescue at 18230 Birmingham Road, Culpeper, VA 22701 or to Altay Baptist Church c/o Pastor Evelyn Emerson at 4287 Six Corners Road, Dundee, NY 14837.
