Dorothy (Dot) O’Bannon Schaeffer passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. She was born in Rixeyville, Virginia on August 27, 1926 to Judson Browning O’Bannon and Ollie Gaye Curtis O’Bannon. She retired in 1987 as Commissioner of the Revenue of Culpeper County; was an active member of Culpeper United Methodist Church, serving on many committees; a volunteer with the Culpeper Hospital Auxiliary; and active in the Culpeper Relay for Life.
Dot is survived by her daughter, Linda Schaeffer Bridges and husband Michael Bridges, Mineral Virginia; grandson Brandon Schaeffer Bridges, Chesterfield Virginia; his wife Rachael Bridges, great-granddaughter Olivia Bridges and great-grandson Easton Bridges. Other survivors include niece Ann Beamer and husband Alan, nephews Steve Lane and wife Jo Gale, and Alan Lane and wife Karrie. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Monroe Schaeffer; sister Russell Lane; and brother Billy O’Bannon.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery, Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, Virginia. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
