Obituario de Glassell Morton Halsey II
Glassell Morton Halsey, II went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 7, 2020. Morton was born in Fredericksburg, VA on Father’s Day, June 17, 1934 to Glassell Morton Halsey, Sr. and Carolyn Minor (nee Moser) Halsey Williams. He was raised in Winston, VA (Culpeper County) then Raccoon Ford, VA. (Orange County). Morton was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother, James Beckham “Jim Beck” Halsey. He is survived by his wife, Doris Corbin Halsey; eight children, Terese Tice and her husband Russ, of Landstuhl, Germany; Fontaine Halsey and his wife Robin, of Orange, VA; Jeanne Nixon and her husband Steve, of Culpeper, VA; Julia Foard-Lynch and her husband Jack Lynch of Warrenton, VA; Tracey Holloway of Spotsylvania, VA; Matthew Halsey and his wife Karen, of Westerly, RI; Jamie House and her husband David, of Raccoon Ford, VA; Jeremiah Halsey and his wife, Ashley of Raccon Ford, VA; as well as three stepchildren, Tammy Stern and her husband Mark, of Orange, VA; Travis “Buck” Corbin and his wife Cindy, of Orange, VA; and Kandi Knicely, of Orange, VA; as well as fourteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Morton attended Culpeper County Schools, graduating from Culpeper County High School in 1953. Following a year working for the Virginia highway department, Morton enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and received basic training at Fort Jackson, SC with the 101st Airborne Division. He was then deployed to Germany and served two years of active duty, followed by six years in the reserves. Morton received an honorable discharge having attained the rank of staff sergeant. Upon returning stateside at the completion of his active duty service, Morton went to work full-time at Safeway Grocery in Culpeper, VA while simultaneously running a small farm, speculating in real estate and later starting and operating a dump truck business. He then moved into the construction industry and became a blasting foreman. His work at Safeway brought him into contact with many locals who were fond of his warm, out-going nature. One customer had a life-changing effect on him. Rosie Brown was a bold witness for Jesus Christ and never failed to witness to Morton---and everyone else---when she shopped at Safeway. At the young age of thirty-two, Morton had a massive heart attack and asked for Rosie Brown to come tell him one more time how to be saved. Of course, Rosie came to the hospital immediately and explained to Morton how Jesus Christ paid his sin debt once and for all with his sacrificial crucifixion and that he need only accept that free gift and place his trust in Christ alone for salvation. Morton did so immediately and that day, February 9, 1967, was his second birth, his spiritual birthday. (John 3:3). The change in his life was all consuming and powerful and Morton promised God that he would tell everyone of God’s love and of the gift of salvation through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. He kept that promise as nearly everyone who he ever met can attest. Morton would turn almost every conversation to Jesus. Desiring to know God more deeply, Morton enrolled in Thomas Road Bible Institute, graduating with a Biblical Studies diploma in May of 1976. He was a charter member of both Grace Baptist Church in Orange, VA and Faith Bible Baptist Church in Unionville, VA where he served as treasurer for more than twenty years. We know that last Saturday Morton was welcomed into Heaven by his King, Jesus Christ! After seventy-years, he is enjoying that blessed reunion with his beloved younger brother, Jim Beck, of whom he spoke so very often! A time of visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 16, 2020 at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, Virginia 22701.
