After graduating High School in Charleston, SC our mother moved to Hays, KN where she studied at Fort Hays University and became a medical technician. Later she moved to Wichita, KN and worked in county government before taking off to see the world! As a family we traveled thru Europe by car heading towards the middle east and settled in Iran for one year. Next after leaving Iran, we stayed one year in London England where she worked as a secretary for Granada publishing company before returning to the US and settled in Fairfax VA.
In 1971 she began work with the US postal service as a mail clerk working night shift in Merrifield VA until the late 1980’s. She then was assigned to research and development for implementing the new ZIP + 4 nationwide zip codes. Later she was assigned to administrative assistant and secretary at USPS Headquarters in Washington DC in the post master generals office until her retirement in 2004.
Hazel was a life long dedicated Jehovah’s Witness and, in her retirement, years joyfully spent time sharing her faith and teaching others about god’s kingdom from the bible.
Our mothers love will always be a part of us. She withstood many a storm and caused some to raise us as adults. We will cherish many memories of her and some we will forget. In her humanity she tried to do the best of herself to do what she thought was right by us. For this we thank her and will miss her. We only have one mom and now ours is gone.
There will be no formal service as remains will be interned at Carolina Memorial Park
,North Charleston, SC with her family.
In leu of flowers or cards please donate to your local food bank or jw.org our mom would like that.
