Joe grew up in Slate Mills, VA with his brother Roger and his sister Marian. They worked together, played together sleigh riding down the steep hill beside the Hazel River in winter, and swimming in the ole rock hole in the summer. Joe manifested exceptional musical ability that came naturally. Roger played the banjo, Marian the guitar, and Joe played anything with strings on it, and more. After high school and several jobs, Joe bought the Culpeper Music Center where he honed his skills. Joe played many Friday and Saturday nights with local bands, but in recent years played at nursing homes to help lift their spirits.
After several years in the music business Joe changed course, and bought Dominion Skating Center. Many remember being greeted in the parking lot by Joe with his dog in his arms when they came to skate. Joe loved his dogs. His last dog, Jodee, went everywhere with him, including to church!
Joe took pride in his garden and loved to share its produce. Joe will be missed by so very many for his kind and generous ways.
Joe is survived by a sister, Marian Brown and five nieces and nephews, Regina, Glynn, and Joel White, Mike Brown and Tammy Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents Carter and Nancy White, his brother Roger White, and niece Debbie White.
