Margaret is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Ronald Edward Goheen; daughters Lorie (Gary), Karen, and Leslie (Rick); grandchildren Chris, Chelsea, Kayla, Brian, and Holly; and great-grandchildren Victoria Grace, Severus, Lilian, and Jaiden. Margaret is also survived by 14 “adopted” grandchildren from all over the world, as she opened her heart and home to the many foreign exchange students hosted by her daughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, Addison Lester and Agnes Mayo Spindle, and her brothers Charles, Joseph, Robert, and John (Jack) Spindle.
Margaret was born on January 29, 1938 in Bon Air, Virginia (Arlington County). After moving as a young child, Margaret spent her childhood on a farm in Loudoun County, Virginia. In September of 1959, Margaret was in charge of a United Methodist Youth Fellowship dance at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. A young sailor named Ron was in attendance that night, and the rest, as they say, is history! By June of 1960, the young couple was married.
Margaret grew up in the Methodist church and was active in the church in various capacities, until her health began to decline. Even then, she enjoyed pastoral visits and at-home devotions with Ron.
Margaret devoted her life to her family and to “keeping the home fires burning” in support of her husband’s military career and beyond. She loved fiercely and was at her happiest and proudest when recognizing the accomplishments of her husband or any of her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren.
