Rebecca was born in Henderson, North Carolina, on September 16, 1930 to William Lee Rogers and Mary Elizabeth Rogers (Johnson). She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and her siblings, being the fourth of four children.
Rebecca is survived by her three children, daughter Deborah (Mark), son Rob (Marilyn), and daughter Tamara (Philip). In addition, she leaves behind five grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Raised by hardworking parents of the Depression Era, Rebecca often spent time at her Grandmother Johnson’s farm in Henderson. This time included Sundays attending Plank Chapel Methodist Church where she learned about Jesus. From a young age, Rebecca knew her Savior and tried to follow his ways. Her old worn Bible has Romans 5:8 highlighted, which states, “But God commandeth his love for us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (KJV)
Rebecca graduated from high school in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1948. After attending business school, she worked as a typist. During this time, she met the love of her life, Cola “Bick” Rienzi Morris Jr, at the local skating rink. They were married in 1952 just before her husband was called to active duty as an Air Force Officer. This began a wonderful, active, and fulfilling life as a military spouse who always said she would be perfectly happy sleeping on a 2’x4’ as long as her husband was there beside her. They traveled the world together from the Philippines to Bermuda to Alaska and in between. In 1982 Rebecca and her husband retired to one of their very favorite places, Colorado, and enjoyed making memories together as they traveled to Germany and other places.
Rebecca loved supporting her husband and being a homemaker. No matter where they were in the world, Rebecca thrived on coming along with the responsibilities of an Air Force wife, creating a lovely home and hosting events to support her husband’s growing military responsibilities. As a mother to her three children, she was supportive and kept all organized. And as her husband’s health declined, due to Parkinsons, Rebecca became his loving caregiver for the last 15 years of his life.
Gifted in teaching preschool children, she was a Sunday School teacher in various military chapels and local churches throughout her life. She participated in a variety of leadership roles over the years, such as, in the Officer’s Wives Club where she organized luncheons, tours, and charitable bazaars. She was gifted in needlework, drawing and painting. And when retired to Colorado, had a leadership role in the Ladies ministry at her local church.
Rebecca’s faith was deeply rooted in prayer and Scripture. Her faith was simple but strong and sure. “Miss Becky”, as she was known in her final years at church, never ceased to give hugs and tell others she loved them.
