

Robert L. Payne, Sr., age 80, of Culpeper, VA, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at his residence. Mr. Payne was born October 6, 1931, in Orange County, VA, to Lloyd Ryvers Payne and Fannie Suder Payne; he went to work at a very young age for J.A. Swan, then into the U.S. Army, where he served as a Seargent in Korea. Upon returning from the Army, he returned to J.A. Swan, New Holland Culpeper, Green Valley, and Beverage Tractor as an agricultural equipment mechanic.
Surviving Mr. Payne is his three children; Linda Hales of Winnabow, NC, Robert L. “Bobby” Payne, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Spring City, TN, and Nancy Whorton and her husband Donald of Rapidan, VA, sister, Carrie Payne Breeden and her husband Jesse, brother, John R. Payne, sister-in-law, Frances W. Payne; all of Culpeper, VA, six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and numerous other family members also survive.
In addition to his parents and his loving wife, Joyce Ann Payne, his brothers; Donald H. Payne and Charles “Buddy” Payne, son-in-laws, Paul Hales and Ray Ward also precede Robert in death.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Hwy., Culpeper, VA with funeral services at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery with military honors provided by the V.F.W. Post 2524 and American Legion Post 330 Honor Guards.
Pallbearers will be grandsons; Gregory A. Ward, Michael T. Ward and Brian J. Whorton and nephews; Donald “Butch” Payne, Jr., Steve Payne and John R. “Ricky” Payne.
