Anna was born on February 27, 1937 in Nicastro, Italy, to Giuseppe Cittadino and Giuseppina Mascaro. She married her husband, Elio Caruso, on October 6th 1963, and moved soon after to Santa Monica, California, where she lived until her passing. She had two children, Enza and Dante, and was blessed with 4 grandchildren, Giuseppe, Elizabeth, Gina and Nicole.
Anna took pleasure from the simple things in life. Her family was her greatest pride and joy. She took care of each and every one of them putting them all before herself. This was followed by her faith in God , participating in daily mass and prayers. She also found happiness in cooking, visiting with friends and taking peaceful walks. She enjoyed watching the Italian television channel in her native language so she could keep up to date with events in her native country.
Her greatest attribute was her maternal instinct. She was warm, caring, nurturing, protective and loving. She helped raise several children while babysitting when she first arrived in the USA, even though she couldn’t speak English yet. Later these traits were used in her work, where she fed children from elementary school age to High School age at her job in the cafeteria of the Culver City Unified School District. Many people were drawn to her for these motherly traits and several people called her their second mother and even used the word “Mom” when talking to her. She was truly loved by all who knew her.
Services for Anna will take place on Thursday, October 19th from 4:00 PM -8:00 PM at Gates Kingsley & Gates Smith Salsbury Funeral Directors in Culver City.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, October 20th at 12:00 PM at the Holy Redeemer Chapel at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
Following the mass will be the burial at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
