I’m so sorry family to hear of the passing of my cousin Charles.  I will be keeping you in my prayers.

Charles was one of my favorite cousins who baby sat my brother, sisters and I.  Charles was a mentor and an inspiration to me during my childhood. I always looked up to him. I admired his toughness, athletic ability, work ethic, and love for his family.  I enjoyed the times we spent at my Aunt Cleo’s (his mom) house for family gatherings, and loved conversing with him.

I returned the favor of babysitting Charles ’children years later.  I was lucky my cousin trusted me to take on more responsibilities.  Charles early on saw something in me that most people didn’t. 
 
My favorite memory of Charles occurred the summer I returned home from U. C. Berkeley, and attended Engineering classes at UCLA.  I contacted Charles to help me locate a popular Engineering book that was unavailable at most L. A. area libraries and book stores.  I really needed this book to support me in the development of my class final Engineering Project.  I was so excited when I heard he found this in-demand book.  I jumped for joy, ran to my car, and headed to his UCLA office to pick it up.  I walked into his office so proud of how far he had advanced in his career in comparison to his initial UCLA job.  Charles career advancement at UCLA was extra motivation for me to continue my pursuit of higher education in Mathematics and Engineering.  “If you can see it, you can be it.”   as Charles would say.

I will forever cherish our thought-provoking conversations, heartwarming chats, and motivational support he offered throughout my life for my family and I.   We Loved him dearly, and will truly miss him.
