She was the second youngest among seven siblings, Evangeline grew up in the small town of Sual, Pangasinan, Philippines where her father was the prestigious mayor.
She attended Centro Escolar University for Pharmacy Studies, passed the Pharmacy Board, and after worked at a refugee center in the province of Bataan, Philippines.
She immigrated to the United States of America in 1982 and resided in Los Angeles, CA for 40+ years. She went back to school and attended Pacific Coast College to receive her LVN license. She worked as an LVN for some time along side her sister, Brenda. After, she worked at the US Veteran’s Affairs Hospital & Medical Center in Los Angeles as a pharmacy technician. This is where she made some amazing, kind-spirited friends that have lasted a life time. She retired from the V.A. after 25 years of service.
Anyone who knew Evangeline would describe her as a kind-hearted soul, who loved to laugh and enjoy life. A person who was generous, God-fearing, patient, loving, and understanding. Evangeline was closest to the youngest sister of 7 siblings, Brenda, . They spent many years together, Her closest friend affectionately called her Veh, reminisces daily about their time together.
A fond memory she has are the plenty of times she tried teaching Vangie to drive… unsuccessfully so. Brenda always poked fun at Vangie saying, “Only straight lines she’ll drive with no other cars on the road then Veh will get her license!” Vangie never got her license.
Her niece, Hazel, has plenty of videos of Vangie trying on different Snapchat filter laughing at the different effects, “Oh! I like that!” She’d smile at the babyface filter.
“Oh that’s sooo ugly!” She’d frown at any filter that made her look like a man.
We rewatch those short clips laughing along with her.
Evangeline spent the last years of her life surrounded and cared for by her sisters, her grandnieces and grandnephews, and her beloved dog, Einstein, before he too passed away.
A viewing and prayer will be held for Evangeline with all her loved ones on Saturday, December 2nd, 2023 from 4pm-8pm at Gates, Kingsley & Gates Smith Salsbury Funeral Directors(4220 Sepulveda Blvd. Culver City, CA 90230)
