A funeral service will occur Saturday, December 17, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church Los Angeles, 1600 S. Robertson Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90035.
Ikbal Fahmy was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1939, the oldest of five siblings. She attended school and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.
Ikbal and Aziz Fahmy were married in 1966 and had 2 children. They were the very first of their families to immigrate to the United States in 1969. Ikbal and Aziz worked hard when they came to the U.S., sometimes working 2 or 3 jobs simultaneously to bring all her family members to the United States in the following years. They opened their homes to every family member who came after. Ikbal eventually obtained her double masters degree in statics and public administration from the University of Southern California.
Aziz and Ikbal were among the founding families of our 1st Coptic Orthodox Church in the U.S., St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Los Angeles. Ikbal was extremely kind, and at one point, one of the members of our church became a victim of gun violence, and unexpectedly and tragically passed away leaving behind a young family. Ikbal, being filled with the love of Christ, donated her own burial plot, and helped fund the young man’s funeral. Ikbal was very steadfast in the faith, always in attendance at church, and praying the Bible and Agpeya multiple times per day.
In her retirement years Ikbal was a very active member of the St. Peter and St. Paul senior group and was very studious and diligent in reading the Bible. In fact, many times she participated in spiritual gatherings and won many prizes for her excellent biblical knowledge. She brought home the items she won from church whether they were pictures or icons and proudly displayed them all over her home with fondness.
Ikbal is survived by her loving family, Christine and Erenie her daughters, Peter Washington her son-in-law, her siblings, and many other beloved family members.
