Lisa Rosanne Lorber was born on September 2, 1982 in Los Angeles, California. On August 22, 2014, she was diagnosed with stage 4 Leiyomyosarcoma, a very rare and aggressive cancer. After a brief but fierce battle she passed away on November 2, 2014.
Lisa was born to a very loving family. Her father, Andy Lorber, grew up in Malibu, California. Her mother, Rose Lorber, grew up in El Salvador. Lisa was raised in a blend of these 2 cultures. Not your average child, Lisa was always outside the mold. No Barbies or dolls for her, this girl requested things like typewriters, art supplies, science kits and pets. Her love of food was nurtured early by her grandfather, Norman Lorber, and her artistic hand was clearly a gift from her grandmother, Joyce Lorber. When she was 5, she received a friend for life when her sister Jenny was born.
As an adult, Lisa studied graphic design at Cal State Northridge and spent the last 6 years in this field. What she loved about her job was that she could sit at her desk, put on her headphones and listen to music as she worked. Her dream was to eventually work for Disney doing graphics.
Lisa was extremely close with her family. She spent every lunch break with her dad, Andy, at the local co-op, evenings and weekends with her mom, Rose, and always made time to visit her grandparents, Norman and Joyce. The rest of the time she spent texting her little sister, Jenny with funny pictures, music or general rants about her day. Her most recent favorite topic was her loving boyfriend, Bryan Gallup. Lisa and Bryan met through a series of strange coincidences at the beginning of 2014. Their relationship took off quickly and wedding bells could be heard in the distance. Lisa and Bryan enjoyed a special holiday weekend in Alabama, where he was living at the time, in July.
Lisa will always be remembered for a few things. Most importantly, her sense of humor. A couple hours with Lisa was always a guaranteed laugh. She could master any accent, pick up on things no one else would notice and had timing that can't be learned. Secondly, her love of food. Particularly, her love of sweet treats and ethnic cuisine. Calories were not an issue for this girl, she ate what she wanted, when she wanted it. Next, her love for music. She had music with her everywhere she went, always knew the best underground names and spent many weekends at concerts and shows. Lastly, her love for animals, particularly cats. Her two cats Mylo and Kitten, were always on her mind, even in her last moments. To end, a list of a few of her favorite things: I love Lucy, Disneyland, Las Vegas, Indian food, ice cream, The Simpsons, anything 1950's, The Golden Girls and shopping.
