Mike was born on October 10, 1937, to Edward and Lucille Morgan in Santa Monica, CA. He was the elder of two children, the younger named Dennis. He attended St. Monica Catholic Elementary and High Schools.
In Mike’s early years, his family lived across from the Brentwood Country Club. Playing on the golf course with his brother as kids, and watching the golfers, inspired him to take up golf in high school, instilling a lifelong passion for the sport. He also became a competitive swimmer in high school and loved to swim and bodysurf in the ocean. He and his brother Denny would often start with the waves in Santa Monica and ride them down to Venice Beach.
He was a devout Catholic and continued his Catholic education at Loyola University, where he received a BA in Business Administration. He gained valuable business experience working at his father’s gas station in West LA during high school, and later at Sears Department Store where he continued his career for 43 years – serving as General Manager of several stores before retiring. He was publicly acknowledged for his tireless efforts at rebuilding stores after natural and other disasters.
While at Loyola University, he joined the Alpha Delta Gamma fraternity where he made lasting friendships and was introduced to his wife of 21 years, Diane. They raised six children whom he loved dearly.
In 1992, he began a new chapter with his marriage to Susan, with whom he enjoyed the last many years of his life, and came to know her four children as if they were his own. Mike and Susan would be celebrating 23 wonderful years of marriage this Sunday.
He is survived by these family members as well as 9 grandchildren and his nephew.
Michael was a very caring man who in his retirement volunteered at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, and later volunteered his time to feed the homeless. He was known for speaking about the power of love. He was quick to make a joke and brighten the room with laughter and always left a person in conversation with a smile. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors.
