

He graduated from Los Angeles High School, June, 1964. While attending LA High, he took part in track and cross country. He was a letterman for all six semesters. After graduating, Steve attended Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and was the first recipient of the newly established “Tomi Electronics Scholarship.”
Steve married shortly after high school, and had a son. While raising a family, Steve became an employee of TRW Systems in October, 1967. He worked the second shift while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science at Cal State LA. He became an Aerospace Engineer and was with the company, which is now Northrup Grumman Corporation, until the 2009. As a sideline Steve acquired his Real Estate Brokers License and sold residential and commercial properties over the years.
Steve was an active member of the Los Angeles High School Alumni Association. He created and maintained the Alumni Website. He volunteered his time to photograph several of the school’s reunions. He received the “Roman of Excellence Award” in Honor and Appreciation of his tireless commitment to the Association.
There were many things Steve enjoyed, especially tinkering and playing with his new electronic toys. He loved photography and always had the latest and best equipment on the market. He became an avid Ham Radio operator connecting with many people all over the country, and made many friends.
Steve had a wonderful sense of humor, and those of us who knew him will forever miss his clever and rye comments, his joyful laughter, and his generosity.
Steven is survived by his son, Marlon B. Russell; sister, Elinor A. McNeel of Los Angeles, California; nieces Gina M. Jackson of Oakland California and Michelle’ Harris of New Orleans, Louisiana; great nephew, Rayvon M. Jackson of Oakland, California, great nieces Tiffany Pratts of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Chanel Garrett Harris of Oakland, California.
