

Born, January 11, 1939, he was the son of the late James Wilkins Carrigan and Vandora Green Carrigan.
Joel retired in 1996 from Good Will Publishers after 37 years of service. He was a former member of Rankin Lake Baptist Church. There he served as Sunday school teacher, deacon, and training union director. Joel also served as President of Dallas Optimist Club, President of Carr Elementary P.T.A. Joel was a member of Forest Pointe Church in Belmont.
He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Foy Carrigan; children, Gregory Carrigan and Andrea C. Hardee and husband Ray; brother, Phil Carrigan and wife Annette; sisters, Erma C. Clemmer and husband Ray, Shirley C. Withers; brother-in-law, Marshall Smith; five grandchildren, Anna Hardee Branch and husband Mark, Alex Hardee, Abigail Hardee, Clay Carrigan and Chandler Carrigan; nieces and nephews, Marsha Smith, Brent Smith, Wanda Bates, Jeff Withers, Eric Withers, Chris Carrigan, Kevin Carrigan; stepchildren and grandchildren, Richard and Kay Foy, Katie and Sam, Lee and Melissa Foy, Gary, Gavin and Ethan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Juanita C. Smith; brother, Michael Randy Carrigan; and nephew, Deron Withers.
A funeral service will be held at 3pm Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Gastonia with Rev. Ray Hardee officiating.
Interment will be at First Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Dallas.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 pm Friday at the church prior to the service.
