Adelina was raised in Robstown, Texas, and left the traditional education system at the 3rd grade level. Her first job was picking cotton as a youngster along-side her family. However, as a bi-lingual, hispanic woman, she strived to improve her education and literacy, reaching a self-taught 10th grade level.
She married Juan Rios Ybarra in 1948, and together they had seven children. In addition, Adelina was step-mother to Luciano and adopted mother to Tony, a nephew she raised as her own with Mr. Ybarra.
Not only did Adelina accomplish herself as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, she embraced a life in service of her family and God.
As former President of the Guadalupana’s, a sisterhood society of Mexican-American Catholic women, who promote the spiritual well-being of all nationalities and cultures, devoted to Our Lady Guadalupe. She joyfully volunteered her time to church cleaning and preparing the chapel for mass. As part of Saint Patrick’s school staff, Adelina loved working in the cafeteria, cooking for the young students for over ten years.
In her spare time, Adelina enjoyed nurturing her grand-children, family, and loved ones. As a skilled seamstress, she loved to sew, frequently making clothing for her family and friends. Adelina loved to read books, especially the Bible and Catholic Digest. She also kept up with the news and current events. She mentored others in their civic duties by encouraging them to exercise their right to vote, leading by example. Adelina enjoyed nature, including gardening and watching and feeding birds and butterflies. She deeply involved herself in cooking and creating delicious meals for her family and loved ones.
As a devoted woman of faith, she spent much time in prayer and oration for self, family and friends, and those in need. As a steadfast example of strength and wisdom, she remained progressive in her approach to an ever changing world. Her joy was endless over the miracle of life.
Her family and friends will always remember her as a beautiful soul who was immensely loving, kind, compassionate, and selfless. Her quiet generosity spoke volumes of the love she embodied throughout her lifetime.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Juan, her sons Hilario, Luciano, Jesse, and Tony, and her daughter Rosemary. She is survived by Guadalupe Ybarra Smitha, Alfred Ybarra, Anna M. Prusaitis Ybarra, and Josephine Ybarra Taylor, in addition to 26 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Adelina watched her very last Dallas Cowboys football game Sunday the 11th, she enjoyed their wins and was a true fan, wearing her Cowboys jersey on game days. She remained in good spirits being young at heart, continuing to give joy, laughter and love.
