If you asked a hundred people who Aldridge Wendell Jermany was, they’d all give you a different story. A man of few words. A superhero. The wisest man on Earth. A man’s man. The world’s sharpest dresser. A voice as sweet as birds sing. The man behind the van. One of God’s closest friends. An angel on Earth.
On Saturday, February 26th, 2022, Aldridge Wendell Jermany was called home at the age of 80. The world has lost a great brother, husband, father, leader and man.
Aldridge Wendell Jermany was born August 3, 1941, to Samuel Penick and Beadie Russ Jermany in Emerson, Arkansas. He accepted Christ and united with New Hope Baptist Church. He graduated from McMittress High School in Emerson and moved to Texas. He worked in construction for several years contributing to Dallas’ city skyline with his help in constructing Republic National Bank. He then began a 30 year career at CBS, where he remained until his retirement May 31, 2019.
He was a long-time member of New Zion Baptist Church in Dallas where he served on the mass choir and as a deacon. He later united with New Faith Baptist Church in 2006 and served as a deacon, chairman of deacon board, finance committee, and sang in male chorus and mass choir.
If you asked Aldridge, his greatest accomplishment wasn’t the positions he held in work or at church. It was being an outstanding husband and father. Aldridge met his wife Melvia Jean Lindsey at his church in Emerson. It was love at first sight. And so began Al’s pursuit of Melvia Jean, and their love story played out until his very last breath. That love grew to include Aldridge’s eldest son and namesake, Aldridge Donnell Jermany, only daughter, Towana Marie Strong and youngest son Vincent Roman Jermany. Aldridge spent 60 years of marriage exemplifying the vows he made to Melvia on their wedding day, for better or worse and in sickness and health he served as true partner in love and life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Daniel Jermany, and two sisters, Geraldine Broomfield and Marzettie Starness.
He is survived by his wife Melvia Jermany, two sons Aldridge Donnell Jermany and Vincent Roman Jermany (Rebecca); daughter Towana Strong, son in law, Derrick Strong; two brothers, Samuel Paul Jermany and Timothy L. Jermany; four sisters Mable Leonard. Octavia Denton, Mary Jermany, and Esther Averhart; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
