With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alern Wang on September 21, 2025. He was a beloved father, brother, husband, grandfather, and friend.
Born in Beigang, Taiwan, Alern’s love of learning and pursuit of knowledge guided his path through higher education. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Tunghai University, two master’s degrees from the University of Toronto and Washington University in St. Louis, and a Ph.D. from Tongji University in Shanghai, China.
In 1980, Alern and his late wife, Bernadette, settled in Plano, Texas, where he built a career as an architect and later expanded into construction and property management. For more than forty years, he dedicated himself to the communities he helped create, serving and enriching the lives of those who were part of them. Beyond his professional achievements, he gave generously of his time and talents. He was an active member of the Lions Club, participated in a local writing group, and authored four books along with numerous articles on subjects ranging from political figures and history to personal reflections.
His life was shaped by curiosity and a profound appreciation for culture—history, the arts, music, and film. Alern loved traveling, singing karaoke, and playing mahjong. He also had a deep passion for sports, especially tennis and basketball, and was a loyal Mavericks fan (“Fire Nico”).
He expressed his love for others through hosting lively gatherings and generous meals, believing that sharing food was one of the most meaningful ways to bring people together. Above all, he cherished being a grandfather and found his greatest pride in watching his grandchildren grow.
Alern was preceded in death by his father, Shui Lian Wang, his mother, Xiu Ying Wang, both of Taiwan, and his late wife, Bernadette of Plano, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Huang; his three devoted children, Candace, Chris (JW Victor), and Clifford (Julie La); and his pride and joy—his grandchildren Carter, Camden, Noah, and Olive. He is also fondly remembered by his brothers, Kuo Xian Wang and Kuo Tsung Wang, of Taiwan.
We will remember Alern for his generosity, his vibrant spirit, and his devotion to family. The love he shared and the memories he leaves behind will remain a lasting source of comfort and strength for all who knew him.
