Andrew Rosenberg Bramley, née Endre Rosenberg, passed away on September 5, 2021, at the age of 95. Born in Budapest, Hungary, on May 19, 1926, Andrew found refuge in the United States and ultimately carved out a full life in Dallas.
Andrew was passionate about the arts, especially classical music and opera, religiously attended performances and was an avid museum goer. An accomplished cellist, he was in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for twenty years. In addition, he taught Organic Chemistry at SMU and was a business owner of Chemical Service Laboratory. A veteran of the Korean War, Andrew served in intelligence, interpreting aerial photographs and was proud to be of service to his adopted country.
A Holocaust survivor, Andrew was infused with sadness over the loss of his father, one sister and his inability to see his mother and other sister until decades after the war. He carried with him the wish for their lives and names to be remembered. Please join us in remembrance of parents Mariska & Robert Rosenberg, sister Hedi and her twin Lili, who was married to George and pregnant when murdered.
Andrew found happiness when he married Ruth Solka Waranch in 1968. When he first appeared on the scene with his pipe and his Peugeot, he did his best to instill discipline into the free-flowing household with 4 children. Not always an easy task, but he was enamored with Ruth’s vivaciousness and beauty, which never waned. As different as they were, they balanced each other on the dance floor and other places. Ruth appreciated his quick wit and didn’t mind telling others when he was joking. Whereas Ruth was the life of the party, Andrew was deeply private and preferred focused, one-on-one conversations. They traveled widely and shared views on the environment and politics.
Andrew felt a duty and delight in having meaningful relationships with his beloved grandchildren and was interested in their unique personalities and pursuits: Marc & David Ligon; Amos, Ethan & Daniel Waranch; Noah, Ben & Mira Fleschman; Samuel & Simon Waranch.
All four of his children feel he had an impactful role as their father: Brenda Ligon and husband Bert, Saul Waranch and wife Dinah, Julie Waranch Fleschman and husband Joel, and Barry Waranch and partner Cindy Nelson. Along with his children and grandchildren, he is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Ruth Bramley, friends, relatives and a cousin in Haifa, Israel, who he continued to speak Hungarian with until his death. We all mourn the loss of this man of principle and integrity.
If so desired, donations welcome in Andrew Bramley’s name at North Texas Food Bank.
Graveside services will have a private burial, with a Zoom Shiva service at 7:pm.
