Anita Maureen Chanpong (September 14, 1933 – May 26, 2018) was born in Kingston, Jamaica, to Joseph and Colleen Wong. She owned a successful insurance brokerage firm in Jamaica, which she had to leave behind when she and her family immigrated to the U. S. in 1976. Although she had many years of insurance experience, she had to start in a clerical position at Swett & Crawford. At Swett & Crawford, she quickly proved her worth and ended her career as President of Maclean, Oddy & Associates, an independent wholesale insurance brokerage firm in Dallas, Texas, which she helped found in 1983.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Colleen Wong, and her brother Theodore (Teddy) Wong. Beloved mother, grandmother and aunt to son Randall Chanpong, his wife Michele and their children Tori, Brendan and Brady; daughter Shelley Ard, her husband John and their sons Christopher and Andrew; son Steven Chanpong and his daughters Ashley, Sarah and Christina; nephew Paul Wong, his wife Melanie and their children Nicholas and Kylie; and nephew Brian Wong, his wife San Mei and daughter Rachel. She also leaves behind other family members and many friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
There will be a Memorial Service at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas, 75225, on Friday, June 8, 2018, at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, Anita requested that donations be made to the North Texas Food Bank.
