His fecundity at home was matched by an unflappable work ethic, mastery of many pursuits, and quick wit. Ever the patron of eclectic arts, Aslan played the clarinet, collected vinyl records and stamps, participated in philatelic societies and conifer clubs, excelled at fly-fishing, read voraciously (from African and American-Indian folklore to Proust), mastered cooking and husbanding (contributing equally to cleaning dishes, laundering clothes, serving meals at schools, and carpooling kids), and became a talented watercolorist in the last three months of his life.
Though his tenacity and perseverance could at times make him seem stubborn as a mule, he will be remembered as a great son, brother, husband, father, interventional cardiology physician, writer, teacher, mentor, and friend.
Aslan is survived by his parents Hiltrud and Erol Turer, brother Emre Turer, wife Christy Turer, and their five children (Sebastian, Edison, Linus, Charley, and Jack).
A visitation & vigil for Aslan will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00pm with Arabic Muslim prayers in honor of his father's heritage from 5:30 to 6:00pm.
A Funeral Mass will occur Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Rd, Dallas, TX 75225.
