

Audrey Kaplan, 75, of Dallas, passed away on August 5, 2014 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, her spiritual home. She will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother and wonderful friend, generous with her time and resources and devoted to liberal causes.
She was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 30, 1939 to Joseph and Florence Weinberger Richman. She came to Dallas as an infant and other than a brief sojourn in Los Angeles, lived there for the rest of her life. She graduated from Hillcrest high school, attended SMU, and after marrying Robert Hudson, had three sons, Michael, Daniel and Adam. She was a loving mother, and was active in many religious and community activities, including the Democratic party, organizations supporting equality for minorities and women, and the Texas Freedom Network, an organization devoted to protection of scientific accuracy in textbooks used in Texas schools.
In 1975, Audrey married Norman Kaplan, and they were soul-mates for 39 years. They built a home in Santa Fe in 1984 and spent increasing amounts of time there, where they were members of the Santa Fe Opera, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Association, the Santa Fe Chorale, and the Aspen/Santa Fe Ballet. They were active members of Temple Beth Shalom.
Survivors include husband Dr. Norman Mayer Kaplan of Dallas, TX.; sons Michael (Diane) and Daniel; grandchildren Adam (Tina), Alex (Chelsea), Austin, Amy and David Hudson; her brother Herb (Barbara) and their children Trina, Charles and Laynie and their spouses and children; step-daughters Marcia (Michael), Cynthia (Peach), Carolyn (Jon) and Diane (Randall); and step-grandchildren, Isaac and Ian Privitera, Jay and Sarah Reynolds, Sam and Ben Todd, and Amanda and Sam Orley; She was preceded in death by her son Adam Hudson, daughter-in-law Lara Hudson and step-grandson George Orley.
A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 am Friday, August 8, 2014 at Congregation Shearith Israel, 9401 Douglas Ave., Dallas, TX 75225 with Rabbi William Gershon officiating.
