Barbara Scott Bates, of Dallas, TX, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2016. She will always be remembered as a loving servant of the Lord, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all that knew and loved her. Born on April 27, 1922 in Topeka, KS and adopted in love by Dr. J.T. and Ethel Scott and big sister, Bette.
As a young girl, her heart for service was established through caring for her father’s patients. Known as “Bob” by her older sister and her friends, she loved tagging along on all their adventures. A member of the La Chap Society at Texas Tech University was the beginning of her love for learning and football, and long-standing hamburger wagers with her grandchildren. She worked early in her career at TWA and found the perfect ending at Coca Cola Bottling Company.
GG, as her great-grandchildren called her, centered her life on her love of our Lord, her family, and friends. She served as her children’s PTA President and was a member of Northway Christian Church. A Golden Girl (50+ year) member of P.E.O. she loved serving on many committees and being involved in empowering women to do anything they set their minds to, (her life’s motto.) Barbara loved keeping up with her family and grandchildren on her Apple Mac and listening to Frank Sinatra on her iPod. Always wearing red, her smile warmed all our hearts and laughter filled our souls.
Barbara is survived by her children Jay Bates of Chesterfield, MO, Bette Williams and her husband Mike, of Carrollton, TX and Brian Bates and his wife Anna, of Louisville, KY; grandchildren Scott Bates, Dianne Bates, Mande Kalbfleisch and her husband Carl, Melissa Williams, Preston Bates and Amanda Bates; great-grandchildren Eric Kalbfleisch, Brendan Olsen and Willa Mae Crane. She was preceded in death by her father Dr. J. T. Scott, her mother Ethel Scott and sister Bette Scott.
A visitation will be held from 4-6 o’clock p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home with a reception to follow in the L.N. Sparkman Family Lounge.
