1932-2015
Our dear mother, Barbara Davis Cole, age 82, of Bryan, Texas, went home to be with her precious Savior, shortly after worshiping & singing praises to Him, Sunday, January 11, 2015. Mother was joyously welcomed home by her loving family: husband, Jack Stuart Cole of Kingsville, Texas, mother, Arbie Dee Pool Davis (“Mommie Dee”) of Afton, Texas and father, Grady Ezra Davis (“Grandaddy”) of Jacksonville, Texas and brothers Ray and Ron Davis of Lubbock, Texas. Barbara is survived by her 4 children, and 6 grandchildren: Mark Austin Cole; Allison Cole Hicks (and husband, Tal III), Brooke & Talmadge Hicks IV; Stuart Rogers Cole (and wife, Shana), James Stuart Cole; Jennifer Cole Casola (and husband, Sal), Luke, Landon & Cooper Casola. Barbara held leadership positions in numerous community clubs, making lifelong friends through Dallas Christian Woman’s Luncheon Club, Dallas Lawyer’s Wives Club, Dallas Women’s Club, Marianne Scruggs Garden Club, The Village Gardeners, Dallas Symphony Orchestra League, Dallas Antiques and Fine Art Society and Dallas Baptist University Auxiliary Board, wherein she received the distinguished “Ruth Award”. Barbara graduated from both Texas A&I University, where she was a member of Delta Theta Sorority (Zeta Tau Alpha) & campus beauty, “Lantana Lady” & Southwestern Theological Seminary. Barbara had a flare for design and enjoyed helping friends with their interiors. Barbara was a First Grade teacher in both the Fort Worth & Dallas I.S.D. Barbara cherished the memory of her years as a teacher often sharing stories of her students she loved so well. Her devoted Christian parents instilled a deep faith in Christ as they served in both their community church & missionary church planting. Barbara‘s faith was enriched through the preaching of her beloved pastor, Dr. W.A. Criswell, of First Baptist Church, Dallas, who instilled & inspired her to rear her children in the faith. Barbara was known for her genuine & infectious personality, which flowed through her elegant style. She loved to laugh & share in the joys & sorrows of others, serving & pointing many to Christ. Most of all, Barbara was a godly mother & grandmother, praying on her knees with a small circle of devoted prayer warrior moms for decades, claiming the scripture, “Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him for that day.” (Timothy 1:12). While we rejoice in her homecoming, Barbara will be missed by the many lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dallas Baptist University, the Dallas Woman’s Club Foundation in her memory or a charity close to your heart.
