Barbara was born on December 21, 1951, in Ralls, Texas, to William Eugene Carter and Gladys Lowenta Carter. She was raised in Plainview, Texas, and later in Irving, Texas, where she attended Irving High School, graduating in 1970. She continued her education at El Centro Community College, The University of Texas at Arlington, and Baylor University, where she earned her nursing degree.
Barbara proudly served in the United States Army and dedicated her professional life to caring for others. She worked as a registered nurse at Children’s Medical Center and in private medical practices before transitioning into healthcare administration. Over the years, she worked for Cigna, Aetna, and most recently United Healthcare.
In 1973, Barbara married Frederick Clifton Miller. Together they raised two children and built a life centered on family. Barbara’s greatest joy was her family, and she will always be remembered as a devoted mother and an adoring grandmother known lovingly as “Gigi.” She would do absolutely anything for those she loved.
Barbara had a playful and curious spirit. She collected frogs in every form imaginable, enjoyed long walks, scratch that, long drives outside in nature to soak up the sunlight, and never missed the chance to indulge in cheesy foreign soap operas. She loved reading celebrity gossip and treasured opportunities to travel, especially to beaches and camping destinations when she was able.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 29 years, Frederick Miller; her parents, Eugene and Gladys Carter; and her sister, Gladys Eugenia “Gina” Giles.
She is survived by her son, Zachary Miller; her daughter, Rebecca Miller; and her beloved grandson, Luke Miller, who were the light of her life and will miss her deeply.
Barbara’s kindness, dedication, and fierce love for her family will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
