The second of four children, Ben Lloyd Deal was born in San Juan, Texas on 19 March 1940 to Lloyd William and Tina Estelle Deal, a Christian family that set the foundation for his life of service to his family, his country, and his community. At the age of ten, his family returned to their roots in the Weatherford, Texas area where Ben attended school from 6th to 12th grade. After graduating from Peaster High School, he was accepted into the engineering program at The University of Texas at Austin. Despite a temporary hiatus when his Texas Army National Guard unit was called up for active duty, Ben found time to complete his electrical engineering degree and marry his sweetheart, Sandra.
As a resident of Grand Prairie, Texas since 1964; Ben continued to serve his country as a civilian employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until his retirement in 1996. He also served his community as a faithful member of the Grand Prairie Church of God and later in life the Arlington Church of God. In addition, Ben joined the Grand Prairie Camp of the Gideons International where he served at every level for 33 years.
Ben passed on Friday, 7 August 2020, at the age of 80 in Fort Worth, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Hamerman) Deal, his children and their spouses; Ben and Cindy Deal of Nixa, Missouri; Karin and Ronnie Austin of Peaster, Texas, and Stephen and Jane Deal of Arlington, Texas; and his legacy of twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
