LINQUIST, Bernard Patrick 1928-2015. Bernie passed away in Dallas, Texas on Sunday, May 10, 2015. He was born October 13, 1928 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the middle child of Joseph Linquist and Mary O’Rourke. His sister Mary Jo was two years older and sister Peggy was twelve years younger. He grew up in Mound, Minnesota on the shores of Lake Minnetonka. He was an accomplished athlete especially in football and wrestling. As a Guard, Bernie was the first of a pantheon of ten former Mound High School (now known as Westonka) football players since 1946 that were selected to play in the annual Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game. Upon being graduated, he attended the University of Minnesota to study business and wrestle during the legendary Bud Grant era at the university. He was drafted into the US Army in 1950 during the Korean Conflict and served with the 216th Chemical Service Company, Rocky Mountain Arsenal, in Denver Colorado. He also served for several months as part of a detachment at the Atomic Testing Ground at Camp Mercury, Nevada.
He and his wife of almost 60 years, Mrs. Burniece “Burnie” (Pallis) Linquist, were married June 18, 1955 in Superior, Wisconsin.
Bernie was employed for 35 years with Buffalo, NY-based Rich Products Corporation as a regional and ultimately the US Sales Manager. He moved his family to Dallas in 1972 and was a member of the St. Rita Parish in North Dallas.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Thomas Bernard Linquist and his daughter-in-law Alejandra Herrasti Linquist of Chicago, Illinois; two grandchildren, Tomas Linquist and Erik Linquist; one sister Peggy DeFoer of Farmers Branch, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Mary Jo Styner.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 15, 2015 at 2 pm at the North Chapel, Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. Interment will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, May 14, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 8 pm, with Rosary intervening at 6pm at Calvary Hill Funeral Home.
