She graduated Lancaster High School in 1945, and attended Mary Hardin Baylor College and Texas State College for Women. She was married in 1947 to Roy H. Atkinson, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy H. Atkinson, Jr., sisters Anita Brooks and Frances Kilroy, and brother Harrell Garrett. Her survivors include her three daughters, Susan Barden, Vickie Richard and Janet Benson; two sons-in-law, Brady Richard and Pete Benson; granddaughters Catherine Barden, Jessica Barden, Starley Richard, Camille Richard, and Amy Viglino; grandson Alex Viglino; great-grandsons Reid and Harlan Smith.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Ferris Memorial Park in Ferris, Texas 75125.
The family thanks the staff at the Pearl Nordan Care Center at Juliette Fowler Communities for their loving care, grace, companionship, and comfort in her final days.
