Betty was born Betty Jane Surratt on November 4, 1933 in Mer Rouge, Louisiana. She was the daughter of the late William Finch Surratt and Anna Leone Surratt.
She was the youngest of seven children with three brothers and three sisters.
Betty met James Howard Boone in a drug store soda fountain at the ripe old age of 15. It was love at first sight. And just a few months later, married him on December 24, 1948. They were married 49 years until Jim passed away in 1997.
Betty was an avid gardener and loved her flowers and plants. She was a wealth of knowledge and had an incredible green thumb when it came to growing things.
She also was a phenomenal cook and baker. Her unmatched Turkey and dressing and giblet gravy on Thanksgiving, her annual Duck à l'orange that she prepared every New Year’s Day for many years will be sorely missed and never replaced. And of course Christmas and Thanksgiving will never be the same without her chocolate and pecan pies, peanut brittle and fudge. All made without a recipe or measuring cup. All from scratch and all by instinct.
She was a kind and loving mother to her two children Mike and Lisa Boone. She was a fierce defender of them and as the saying would go, “You don’t mess with Betty Boone and you don’t mess with Betty Boone‘s kids!“
Betty also loved dogs. Champ, Princess, Cody, Prissy and Maddie were lucky to have such a great owner.
While Betty’s primary purpose was being a wife and mother, she did have a career and retired from AT&T after many years as a telephone operator.
Those who knew Betty knew her as a woman of few words. But her steadfast love and loyalty to her family was never more evident than in the way that she cared for her late husband and son during their lengthy illnesses.
She loved all four of her grandchildren and fiercely defended her grandsons when they were being disciplined when they were younger!
Betty is survived by her daughter Lisa Boone Elliott, Son-in-law Bert Elliott, and grandchildren Britton Elliott, Joshua Elliott, Lynee’ Elliott and Michael Elliott. She is preceded in death by her late husband Jim Boone and son Michael Boone.
A small, family only, memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Laurel Land funeral home in Dallas, Tx
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Street Dog Project, an animal rescue organization that was dear to Betty’s heart.
