Beverly Sarah Kolwitz passed away peacefully at home in Irving, Texas on May 10, 2023, age 94. Beverly was born on August 2, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois but moved at a young age to Elmhurst, Illinois with her parents Benjamin and Rose Dorothy Sacher Hamowitz. She attended schools in Elmhurst and graduated from York High School in 1945 and from Elmhurst College in 1949 with a degree in biology. At Elmhurst College, Beverly met LeRoy Charles Kolwitz and they married on December 18, 1948.
Beverly taught in grade school but shortly thereafter decided to raise a family. Years later, Beverly would return to substitute teaching, and to full time teaching. The family resided in Illinois until 1974, after which Beverly and Lee relocated to Plano, Texas, and to Holly Lake Ranch, Texas upon retirement. Lee passed away in April, 2000.
Beverly is survived by her four children: Carolyn (Daniel) Peterson of Keene, New York, Diane (Jim) Ardissono of Tomball, Texas, Steve (Karan) Kolwitz of Eagle, Colorado, and Janet (Pat) Collins of Morganton, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Benjamin and Erin, Beth, April and Andrea, and Ryan, Matthew, and Carly; and nine great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents and husband of 51 years, and her only sibling Judy King.
Beverly had many, many high school, college, and neighborhood friends over her lifetime. She had an incredible soprano singing voice and enjoyed performing in musicals, plays, and church choirs. She also played piano. She was an avid reader and volunteered in retirement at the library at Holly Lake Ranch.
She loved her home at Holly Lake Ranch and especially enjoyed the screened in porch overlooking the golf course.
Take a moment and think of Beverly, and, as she would always advise, “hug a lot.”
