In addition to chairing the Theology department and teaching all class levels at St. Francis Catholic High School in Sacramento, California, Mr. Dodson led summer classes for junior high school and incoming freshman students. He was very involved in campus life, coaching the St. Francis Mock Trial and Model United Nations academic teams and mentoring the robotics team. He was also the faculty advisor for the Mini-Lifesavers pro-life student club and represented St. Francis at the annual Walk for Life. Brian will be fondly remembered for dressing up like St. Francis of Assisi on feast days and for “Dodson Says,” his ultra-challenging version of Simon Says that allowed victorious students to record their name on the Golden Scroll of Victory in his classroom.
Brian was born in Dallas, Texas to parents Bill and Patty Dodson. He graduated high school from Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Business and Economics from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He later received his Masters in Theology from the University of Dallas. Brian was the first Catholic educator to be accepted into the rigorous Educational Leadership doctoral program at the University of California CANDEL.
Brian was a beloved husband, father, son and brother. Anyone who spent time with Brian saw him as a generous friend and natural leader. He had a passion for learning, and was a serious reader and movie buff. His open mind and respect and interest in others’ perspectives resulted in interesting, thought-provoking dialogue. He was a loyal friend to many.
Brian passed away unexpectedly on August 5. He is survived by his wife, Carrie Ann, and son, Charlie; parents, Bill and Patty Dodson; sister and brother-in-law, Carrie Jean and Bryan Davis, and niece, Avery; and father- and mother-in-law, John and Julie Davis. Brian will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and all of the students and faculty he inspired and served.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2014 at Calvary Hill North Chapel.
