Mom was born in Dallas, Texas on April 17, 1931, to Robert and Lucille Hunt. She graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1949 where she was one of three students to receive a teaching scholarship. Mom was married to Dan Sitton McCown on May 22, 1953. They were married for 19 years until our father's untimely death in 1972.
Mom was a homemaker for the duration of her marriage, and she and dad raised six children in Ft. Worth, TX, Tulsa, OK, Memphis, TN and Dallas, TX. After dad's death she worked as a real estate agent before becoming a secretary at Lou Smith's Realty in Dallas. She continued in a secretarial position at Coldwell Banker. Her career as a secretary lasted more than 30 years. She enjoyed being a secretary and the many friendships she made at work.
Mom's chief passion was reading books; a passion she passed on to all six of her children. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening. Mom was also an enthusiastic explorer/traveler having visited England, Scotland, France, Mexico and Canada. She visited many of our nation's state and national parks as well as historical sites, but Big Bend National Park in Texas always held a special place in her heart.
