Cayla Hogg Woodruff was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, on May 18, 1949. She passed away peacefully at home in Dallas, Texas, on July 3, 2022, at the age of 73. She was born to Dr. William E. Hogg and Mildred Huntsberry Hogg. She graduated from Texas Christian University where she met the love of her life and husband of fifty-two years, Bill Woodruff.
Cayla’s spirit, faith and positive attitude were present in all aspects of her life. Even in her final days, her warm smile and kindness were prevalent. She never wanted anyone to worry about her, as she had many health battles to overcome throughout the past several years. She constantly exuded strength and did her best not to let her illnesses slow her down.
She was given a second lease on life twenty-one years ago when her sister, Cathy Hogg Loventhal, donated a kidney to her. It was never lost on her what a gift life was. She was grateful for every second.
Her grandchildren, Harper and Robert, were her pride and joy. She cherished her time with them, playing games, creating imaginary worlds and sliding down the slide on their backyard playset. Being with them always lifted her spirits and gave her a youthful energy.
Cayla loved to serve others. She was an active member of her community for many, many years, hoping to make an impact. She treasured her time and friendships made through her time serving with the Women’s Auxiliary of Children’s Medical Center, The Crystal Charity Ball, The Junior League of Dallas and many other organizations. She was involved with Interfaith Family Services, KidneyTexas, Dallas Women’s Club, Dallas Garden Club and the Tuesday Garden Club and was a member of the TCU chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha.
She was blessed with an amazing group of friends who loved her dearly. Until she could no longer travel, she looked forward to trips with friends and her annual trip with her closest Zeta sisters. She loved to travel and cherished this time with friends and the many memories she made traveling to Italy and France with her family.
Cayla is preceded in death by her father, William E. Hogg and her mother, Mildred H. Hogg. She is survived by her husband, Bill Woodruff, daughter Kara Woodruff Axley and her husband Jeff, her grandchildren, Harper Keys Axley and Robert Anderson Axley, her sister Cathy Hogg Loventhal and her husband, Wink, her brother William E. Hogg, Jr. and his wife Priscilla, as well as her three nephews.
In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to The Crystal Charity Ball (crystalcharityball.org) or The PKD Foundation (PKDCure.org).
A service in celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, July 7th, at 11 am at Park Cities Presbyterian Church.
