Cecilia Mary Miles, also known and loved as "CeCe", "MaMoo", and "Gamma" by her generation of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on May 23, 1923 to her dearly beloved parents, David and Rosa Lee (Metoyer) Llorens. She was the sixth of eleven surviving children of thirteen births of her parents. Prior to the death of her mother in 1934, Cecilia lived with Sister Connie in Natchitoches, Louisiana at the young age of two and joined her father, "Papa" and other siblings in Chicago, Illinois, after the passing of her mother.
Our mother attended St. Elizabeth Elementary School and Lucy Flower High School. She married our father "Thomas L. Miles Sr." on June 14, 1941. She worked with a hat manufactory company for a short period of time. She resumed the role of stay-at-home mom for many years until the youngest child "Denise Marie" was a teenager. When she returned to the workforce she worked for the U S Postal Service as a Clerk for 12 years. As life changed her status of marriage to divorce, she began a life of experiencing the joy of travel and square dancing. After her time of healing from this marital lost Cecilia was energized and fancy free. She began traveling with friends and family. She loved going to Square Dance Events and shared this interest with her siblings "Bernadette" and "Annie Pearl". As life would have it Cecilia was single and available to become the matriarch to care giving assistant to her sisters who have gone before her. She would leave her residence and, in some cases, relocated her residence to be with her ailing sisters as they each came to transition from this world. She was the servant in every sense of the word for six out of seven sisters who she survived. This servanthood calling on her life allowed a family bond to the children of her sisters that have grown and still exist as they mature and grow older. Cecilia was not of the highest income lifestyle but definitely of the highest level in giving of herself. She's well remembered by the grandchildren for the many $5.00 gifts she gave on each one of their birthdays, until they reach the age of 18. It never mattered what your need was, it only mattered that she could be the helper you needed. She was a praying Mother. She was a devout Catholic. She would watch Mass on television daily, attend church regularly and for special services and she recited the Rosary daily for as many years as we can recall, up to the very end of her ability to hold the Rosary. Heaven is Joyfully receiving her, the new Angel in the house of many mansions. We will miss her dearly and it will last for a long while, but her heart of gold and generous spirit will last forever. Our Mother passed from this earthly body into the marvelous life of eternity in her sleep after a short period of time suffering after having a very mild case of Covid-19 followed by episodes of dementia which led to what appeared to be mini strokes until the last one took away her ability to walk and then unable to talk which ended with the inability to eat. As the Champion she has been, she closed out her chapter of an active life, a Champion through it all she was of a quiet spirit and never complained of pain. She was at peace and we believe she was ready to meet her Lord.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward, Earl and Alvin Llorens; and sisters, Annie Pearl Gant, Mary Rose Davenport, Clotilde Ray, Elizabeth Brewin and Delores Goodwin. Also preceding her in death was her granddaughter Ingrid Johnson-Reed, great grandsons Brayden Miles and Jaison Mayes. Daughter-in-law Arlene Miles and son-in-law, Velton Bowie. She leaves behind her youngest sister Katherine Young. Her children Thomas J. Miles Jr, Ramona C. Johnson, Lolita B. Mayes (Willie), Agnes L. AsBerry, Victor B. Miles (Cynthia), Denise M. Butcher (Jeffery). 24 Grandchildren, 51 Great, Grandchildren, 29 Great, Great, Grandchildren, 1 Great, Great, Great, Grandchild; and a host of many Friends and Family Members.
