Charlene was born on February 14, 1926 in Waskom, Texas to Charles Wesley Milner and Bessie Mae Milner. She graduated from Waskom High School in 1943 and attended East Texas Baptist College and SMU.
Charlene and her sister Corinne left Texas to work in Washington D. C. and lived with their older sister Anna Dell and her husband, Ferrell. She then returned to Texas and she and her sister Shirley moved to Dallas, where she worked for an oil and gas company until her marriage.
In Dallas, Charlene met Walter (Dub) Fields and they married in 1953. They shared thirty-four wonderful years together and loved to spend time at the hunting camp in the Texas hill country and traveling with their daughter Laura. They logged countless car miles traveling around Texas and the United States and often included other family members on their travels. Later, their travels included a horse as they crisscrossed the country for Laura to participate in rodeos and horse shows. This time together as a family will be forever cherished.
Affectionately called Char by those who knew and loved her, she was a fourth-generation Texan whose family moved to Texas in the 1830s before the battle of the Alamo. She loved the great state of Texas and the US of A. She moved to the Waco area in 2019 to live next door to her daughter and son-in-law, and they were so blessed to have that opportunity to be close to her. She amazed them with her independence, spunk and can-do attitude that made it hard to believe she was 98 years old. She was beautiful, kind and loyal and was always willing to help her family and friends. She lived her life with integrity and honesty, and could always be counted on. She loved all of her family dearly and she will be missed greatly. She was a believer and is now with her savior, Jesus Christ.
Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Walter S. (Dub) Fields; parents, Charles Wesley and Bessie Mae Milner; sister, Anna Dell Oden and husband Ferrell; sister Corinne Dees and husband Daulby; brother Michael Milner; step-son Walter Fields and brothers-in-law David Harper, Ed Walker and Ray Gilbert. She is survived by her daughter Laura Norris and husband Ben; sisters Shirley Gilbert, Millicent Harper, Sharon Brown and husband Don; sister-in-law Donna Milner; step-grandchildren Stephanie Brace, Dub Fields and Brian Fields; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and her beloved schnauzer, Mickey.
