Cheryl was born in Marshall Missouri to Charlie and Marilee Day on November 16, 1946. She attended the University of Missouri and received her bachelors degree in Fashion Merchandising. Before graduation, she was recruited by Neiman Marcus to join their Management Development Program. This meant leaving the farmlands around Marshall for the bustling skyscrapers of Dallas. After holding positions as Assistant Buyer and Department Manager, she was promoted to Buyer of all Junior Sportswear. This provided interesting travel worldwide, from London to Pisa to Hong Kong, as well as frequent trips to all their domestic stores. They say opposites attract, and in spite of her flair for retail fashion met and married a techie engineer named Ernie in 1969.
As a mother of two sons, Michael and Eric, she willingly gave up her Neiman's career to invest all her time, energy and care into being a devoted mother and homemaker upon their birth. Throughout their elementary and high school years she actively volunteered in both St. Patrick School and in Jesuit College Preparatory of Dallas Women's Auxiliary (JWA) serving in multiple positions. Her dedication to her volunteer work did not go unnoticed as she was later honored as JWAs' Woman of the Year in 2009.
True joy came to her Iife~when she became a grandmother, first to Eric and Tara's "allboy" son Kai, followed a couple years later to Michael and Kristen's beautiful daughter Kelsey. They provided Cheryl the love, happiness and affection that only young children can do. All while seeing her son's become mature loving parents carrying forward the same love, care and guidance she gave them for many years.
Cheryl accomplished all of this while achieving some medical milestones, as she was an early kidney recipient some twenty-eight years ago. Her determined desire, fortitude and failure to quit proved doctors wrong by Cheryl far outlasting the typical survival time. Throughout her many medical issues, she never quit or complained, and kept pushing forward for her family. Shewill be missed by her husband, Ernie, of 47 years, children, grandchildren and extended
family, friends and people she touched over her 70 years of vigorous life.
A devoted wife and mother, a devout Catholic and a dedicated friend, she positively influenced everyone she came in contact with. Her loving spirit will be carried forward and we will truly miss her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial donation be made to Jesuit College Prep in Dallas. This can be done through Jesuit's web site at : https://www.jesuitcp.org/sslpage.aspx?pid=1429
