2013 to go to the most beautiful final destination, our Heavenly home above. Our
mother was born on July 23, 1917, in Tainan, Taiwan. She was the third child of
seven, with two older sisters, three younger sisters and one younger brother. Her father
passed away when she was only 17. Because her two older sisters had already married and
moved away, she shouldered the primary responsibility of helping her mother take care of
the household and four younger siblings. When she was 20 years old, she married our
father, Heng Chia Cheng, and they had seven daughters.
Our mother was a full-time housewife who ran our home humbly and devoted all her
time and energy to her husband, children and other relatives. A generous and kind person,
our mother enthusiastically and willingly helped all who were in need. She was popular,
well-respected and loved dearly by all her relatives and neighbors.
Our parents enjoyed many wonderful years together, raising their children in a home
filled with much love and warmth. Along the way, they inspired each and every one of us
and were our standard for how to raise and care for our own families. They were also
instrumental in teaching us to respect and honor our parents and to love one another.
Both of our parents were initially raised as Buddhists. When our mother was 43 years
old, she converted to Christianity, was baptized and eagerly spread the Gospel to our family
and relatives. Despite her busy schedule and responsibilities, she took our family to church
every Sunday for worship service and Sunday school. Leading by example and serving as
our model, she taught all of us to take part in serving the church, to read the Bible diligently,
and to trust the Lord in everything through constant prayers. Through her love and care,
our mother led our entire family, including our grandparents, six uncles, seven aunts and
their families to the Lord. Her unwavering faith in God is the greatest testimony of our
mother’s life.
Our parents immigrated to the United States in 1980. At first, they were worried that
they would not find a place to worship in Taiwanese, but praise the Lord that He provided
Formosan Christian Church of Dallas as our spiritual family. During our mother’s time at
FCCD, she was never alone and continued to be encouraged by the love and care from all
the brothers and sisters, a great testament of Christ’s love. Our mother attended FCCD
faithfully, and even when age and illness eventually made travel difficult, our mother never
stopped thinking about her beloved church and all her brothers and sisters in Christ.
Our mother was peaceful and courageous to her last moment. We know she trusted
that she was under God’s care and plan at all times. We truly believe that God has prepared
a new home for our mother in Heaven where there is no more sickness, pain or tears. To our
beloved mother, we thank you for your love and all that you have done for us. We will
always love and remember you and what it means to be a family. We will continue to love
and care for one another in this world. One day, we will be with you again, our Heavenly
Father, Jesus Christ and all of our Christian brothers and sisters. We shall stay together
forever, as one big, blessed family.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Sparkman/Hillcrest
Northwest Highway Chapel with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
