She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewayne and her parents James and Jocyle Smith.
Claudia was the classic southern lady - while gracious and dependable, she was characterized by her love for and devotion to family and genuine care for others. Born on September 18, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, Claudia came to faith in Christ as a young woman and was a member of First Baptist Dallas for over 49 years. She graduated from Kimball High School where she met her husband, Dewayne. They shared 51 years of marriage that created a legacy of family and friendships based on their foundation of love for each other. Dewayne and Claudia were inseparable. Claudia was a supportive wife and mother, a consistent servant leader, and loved cooking and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her single most life challenge was the loss of Dewayne in 2013, yet she met this transition with poise and kept an active schedule that included her family, friends and church. In recent years, she battled a myriad of health issues but was resolved to her character, shown by the way she lived each day. Claudia will be deeply missed.
She is survived by three children: Loretta Hunt (husband: Rusty), Lori Pennington, Jason Leeds (wife: Danylle), eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers: James Smith, Paul Smith (wife: Vicki) and Hoke Smith (wife: Pamela).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Claudia's honor to First Baptist Dallas.
A graveside funeral service will be held to celebrate her life on Sunday May 5, 2024, at 3pm at Sparkman Hillcrest.
