Concepcion "Conchita" Garcia Reyes

Conchita was predeceased by her loving husband of nearly 30 years Encarnacion “Chon” Reyes. She was also predeceased by her daughter Rosemary Reyes, her son Ernest Reyes and brother Benjamin Garcia. Conchita is survived by her daughter, Irene Martinez and spouse Gilbert Martinez of Dallas, TX, her daughter, Gloria Marez, of De Soto, TX, her daughter Sarah Sheldon and spouse Wally Sheldon of Leander, TX, twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.

Conchita was loved by everyone who knew her, whether you met her once or you were lucky enough to know her your whole life.

She was a longtime member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Dallas, TX where she was an active member of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and was awarded DCCW “Woman of the Year” in 1995. A member of the Cursillista Movement she sang in the Coro de Colores choir.

The St. Cecilia school moto was to ‘Serve as Jesus Did’ and Conchita lived that motto to perfection. She was in the kitchen every Sunday for Hospitality services and if anyone needed anything they knew all they needed was to call Conchita.

After moving to De Soto, TX, to live with her daughter, Conchita joined the community of St. Francis of Assisi in Lancaster, TX where she was a member for the last 20 plus years.

A life-long seamstress, Conchita used her skills to craft items for the Ladies Guild and other charities. She donated aprons, stuffed toys and other items to various church organization. In addition, for many years, she made and donated the baptismal shawls for the parish.

Conchita always loved to be around people. After retiring from her long-time career, she said she didn’t want to sit at home and “get old.” She began her second career as a door greeter at Walmart where she was loved by employees and customers, alike, for over 17 years.

Conchita will be missed for many things, her sense of humor and quick wit, her special home remedies (that never failed). Her best advice ever, “if you have an ache or an itch get some Vicks. And, if your silver hair needs some shine, VO5 Silver will do just
