

Lois Norman of Dallas, Texas went into the arms of Jesus Saturday evening January 14, 2017 while in Baylor hospital with family by her side.
Funeral services Wednesday January 18, 2017 at 2pm; pastor Brent McDougal officiating, burial in Laurel Land Cemetery; family requesting donation to Baylor University “Louise Herrington School of Nursing” in lieu of flowers.
Survivors are husband Ben Norman with whom she had a marriage of 62 years; two sisters Joyce Summers, June Goldsmith; two daughters, Pat Risinger, Pam Boyd; one son, Sam Norman; four grand children, Courtney Courtet, Aaron Risinger, Rachel Risinger, Tom Boyd; two great grand children Caleb Risinger, Hayden Risinger.
Born in Dallas, Texas August 6, 1934 to parents Frank Wyatt and Leitha Johnson. From age 2 lived in Weinert, Texas attending grade school and the Baptist Church. When the family moved near the town of West, Texas in 1948 the school district placed Lois in a class that was 2 grades above her standard grade level for her age. She participated in Elm Mott, Texas Baptist church where she met Ben and they attended school together at West High School. Their friendship grew as Ben and Lois started dating in 1950 having school lunch together and attending square dances. “She loved to square dance”. Lois worked as secretary in West High School office and was nominated as princess on the Queen’s Court at senior prom. Her Science teacher encouraged her to submit a writing composition on why she wanted to become a nurse and then was awarded a full scholarship to Baylor University School of Nursing.
In 1955 completed Baylor University undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree, later to achieve a Masters degree of Nursing from Texas Woman’s University. Lois said “it was my calling and destiny to be a nurse helping other people”. She served at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, Texas; Kimball High School Nurse in Dallas, Texas; and El Centro College as a nursing professor.
In retirement enjoyed bird watching, tending to pets, demonstrated artistic talents in sewing, jewelry making, ceramics, and world travel. Lois retained her RN registration as a Clinical Specialist until 2016 continuing a life-long service.
