

Donald Jamie Embree passed away on August 24, 2011, in Dallas, TX. Don was born June 29, 1927, in Magnolia, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maude Laramore and Lon Embree. Don attended Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia and graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a member of the 10th Mountain Division while stationed at Ft. Carson, CO. Don was a noted antique importer and dealer, operating Donald J. Embree Antiques since 1961. Upon graduation from SMU, he was employed by Highland Furniture and Swedish Modern before opening his own business. He loved his work and enjoyed his buying trips to Europe, especially France and Switzerland. Don made many good friends there and considered all of his customers throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico as friends. His generous and fun loving nature will be missed by all who knew him. The business will continue under the same name. Don is survived by his brother, Dr. Larry Embree and his wife, Gertrude, of Shreveport, LA; nieces, Gertrude Karris of Sackets Harbor, NY, and Katherine Kalmbach of Shreveport, LA; nephews, Jonathan Embree and Robert Embree, both of Dallas. He is also survived by his best friend of 48 years, John Carter Taylor. The family would like to thank Marc Lake, Alex Gonzalez, Cesar Brizuela, Venus Wooten, and Pearl Jefferson for their love and support of Don throughout his illness, as well as his ICU nurses for their professional expertise. Don will be interred next to his parents with private services in Magnolia, AR. A memorial service honoring Don will be held in Dallas at a later date.
