Dora Avila Renaud, 88, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 in Dallas, Texas. She was born in Donna, Texas on August 1, 1926, the youngest of four, and the last surviving child of Evaristo and Belen Avila. Dora met her husband Basilio at Pan Am University in 1952. Their sixty-year marriage began in Donna, Texas on May 19, 1955. The educators moved to Dallas in 1968 to become pioneers of bilingual education in Dallas ISD. Her legacy lives on through the more than 2,000 students she impacted during her 55 years of teaching. She will be loved and missed by many especially her six children: Gerry, Robert, Bettina, Annette, Dora and Marisa as well as eight grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 AM on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 6306 Kenwood Avenue, Dallas, TX 75214.
