

Dottie went to be with her Lord, June 5th, 2010 at the age of 91. She was born on January 20, 1919 in Trenton, Texas to Ruby Brown Gray and Bryan Bailey Gray. She attended school in Sherman, Texas. After graduation she moved to Dallas, Texas and met her first love, Darwin Buford Hightower. They were married June, 1946 for 42 years. Mr. Hightower passed away July, 1988. She met Joseph W. Thornton and they were married June, 1991 for 14 years. Mr. Hightower and Mr. Thornton both preceded her in death. Her parents and one sister, Helen Louise Gray Jarvis Berry also preceded her in death. Dottie worked 43 plus years in Government Service. Retiring as Special Assistant to the Regional Director of Health and Human Services, prior to this she was Administrative Assistant with the U.S. Air Force Medical Construction Liaison Regional Office. She also spent time with the Southwestern Division, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, and U. S. Army Chemical Corps. Dottie was a Deposition Recorder with the District Attorney of Dallas County for 3 years. Dottie was also an active member of several book clubs. Dottie is survived by five nieces and two nephews; Josel Cook, Decatur, TX; Genevia Jarvis Hendricks (Ben), Anchorage, AK; Virginia L. Jarvis Sandwina (Ron), Las Vegas, NV; Jo Micheltree, DeSoto, TX; Virginia E. Stogner (Tom), Ovilla, TX; Robert Jarvis (Gloria), Merritt Island, FL; Jerry Jarvis (Joyce), Portland, OR. Dottie will be missed and never forgotten by all her Nieces and Nephews. A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 9th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home. Dottie will be laid to rest in Hillcrest Memorial Park at a Graveside Service 9:00 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2010. Memorials may be made to the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children for Research or a charity of your choice.
