Dorothy Jean Huguley Matula, a lifelong Dallas resident, born on July 7, 1928, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2018, after a brief illness at Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. Dorothy was a member of the National Honor Society who graduated from North Dallas High School in the class of 1945. She married the love of her life, Daniel J. Matula, in 1953 and together they would travel throughout North America, Europe, Asia and their beloved Hawaiian Islands. They were devoted members of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church of Dallas. Widowed in 1994, Dorothy set out to see the rest of the world with friends or on her own. She visited dozens of countries on all seven continents multiple times. Dorothy was especially fond of cruises and she was a devotee of all things French. Lithe and graceful, adventurous in spirit and tenacious in her beliefs, Dorothy exuded an air of confidence, enthusiasm and cheerfulness in all of her endeavors. Fond of fashion, she was no stranger to Neiman Marcus. But more importantly, she was deeply appreciative of the many blessings that life had bestowed upon her and that was reflected in her charitable nature. While not immune to the misfortunes of life, Dorothy chose to overcome obstacles, view challenges from a positive perspective and always wear a smile on her face. Her sunny disposition was an inspiration to others. After selling her East Dallas home of 53 years in 2015, she was especially happy to have found a community of new friends during her last few years living at The Tradition Lover's Lane. Very social by nature, she was thrilled with the numerous opportunities to join her neighbors for dinner and on outings to the theatre, symphony and book reviews. Although short of family later in life, Dorothy was always rich with friends who loved her deeply. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 22nd, from 6pm-8pm at Sparkman-Hillcrest Northwest Highway. Recitation of the Rosary followed by Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 10am on Friday, February 23rd, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 6306 Kenwood Ave., Dallas, TX 75214. Entombment will follow at Calvary Hill Mausoleum. If desired, memorials may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, The American Cancer Society, The Macular Degeneration Research Program of the American Health Assurance Foundation or the charity of your choice.
