DALLAS, TX – Seldom does a person impact other people's lives with the grace, dignity, and, most of all, humor that Edward David Godlewski did. In spite of a devastating illness, Ed, as he was affectionately known, maintained his positive and uplifting influence on everyone around him, until his passing on October 20, 2010 at the age of 59.
Born October 23, 1950 in Proctor, VT, he was the son of the late Edward V. and Emma (Grace) Godlewski. He was raised in Rutland, VT, and lived in Bakersfield, CA, Reno, NV, Greenville, SC and Dallas, TX. He received a B.S. degree in Biology, with a minor in Education, from Castleton State College in Castleton, VT.
So many grieving family members are left behind by this wonderful and caring man. He will be missed greatly by his loving wife and soulmate of 25 years, Sue Ellen (Immerman) Godlewski; his daughter, Heather Metzger and her husband Andrew of Wallingford, CT; and his son, US Navy Warrant Officer Eric Godlewski and his wife, Shelley, of Pearl City, HI., who he was so proud of for defending his country. He was the proud grandfather of Logan and Megan Metzger and Savannah and Stephen Godlewski. His sisters, with a lifetime of memories, are Kathleen Godlewski of Essex Junction, VT and Martha Hinchman of Milton, VT. His Godmother, Genevieve Prenevost of West Rutland, VT, as well as many nieces and nephews, will also cherish his memory.
Ed Godlewski was the President of Rmax Operating, LLC, and in this capacity, he was the consummate business professional, breaking ground in so many areas with his forward thinking and new ideas. His business associates, PIMA colleagues, and staff, consider him not only a brilliant businessman but also a great friend.
Lest these angels on earth be forgotten, the doctors and nurses, particularly Dr. Udit Verma and his team, and the nursing staff at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Vista Care, should be thanked for their compassion and brilliance in enriching the last few years of Ed's life.
A memorial service is scheduled to celebrate this great man's life and legacy on Thursday, October 28, at 2:00pm, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas, TexasNorthwest Highway Chapel. Friends are invited to please join the family immediately following the service for a reception, where many of the favorite "Ed stories” will be recounted by the friends and family, immediately following the service, which will be held at Sparkman/Hillcrest.
As Ed is remembered and loved, a donation in lieu of flowers would be his wish as well as his family's, so his life will have continued meaning. In death, he will continue to care about others as he did in life. The family requests that donations in memory of Ed be made to UT Southwestern Medical Center, 5323 Harry Hines Boulevard, Dallas, TX 75390; or VistaCare, 7557 Rambler Road, Suite 112, Dallas, TX 75231.
